Finally, some print-worthy news about something other than comic book movies or Star Wars!
Academy-Award winner Jennifer Hudson is in negotiations to play music legend Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic. Hudson is not yet cast, but is reportedly in talks with Straight Outta Compton producer Scott Bernstein to step before the cameras.
Franklin, often called the greatest female rock singer ever, rose to fame in the 1960s & 70s. Like contemporary Tina Turner, she too had to deal with an abusive marriage to an alcoholic husband. Turner’s biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It garnered two Oscar nominations and was a box office hit. A Franklin biopic, long in development, aspires to the same level of acclaim.
Aretha Franklin declared as early as 2007 that Hudson was her first and only choice to play her in biographical motion picture. Hudson won an Oscar for Dreamgirls that same year, and has racked up several Grammys since.
