Muted among all the Star Wars, DC and Marvel comics film news is a return to the magic of Harry Potter.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them enters production this week, the first of the new Harry Potter spinoff films.  While Harry and his pals are not slated to return, the new film follows Hogwarts-trained witches and wizards as they travel the world searching for mythological beasts.  Author J.K. Rowling makes her screenwriting debut penning the story, which is noteworthy for containing the first American characters and locations in either the books or films.  Rowling notoriously opposed the casting of American actors in the original movie series, and fought attempts to have the story reset in the United States.  Only after the books had proved immensely popular and the rush to film the stories become so frenzied did studio bosses at Warner Bros. agree to Rowling’s remarkable creative demands.

Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne heads the new cast which includes Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller and Samantha Morton.  Director David Yates returns to the helm, after taking the reigns of the final four Harry Potter cinematic entries.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is slated to hit theatres in November, 2016.
