Disney must be having a conniption. All the leaks related to Star Wars: The Force Awakens have kept coming with no sign of abating. Though they help keep buzz on the film alive, they do not guarantee that the buzz is positive.
Case in point: the first fifteen action figures from The Force Awakens have hit stores early in a Wal-Mart in Canada, according to reports. The figures have their appeal, and also give away a few secrets of the movie.
For one thing, included in this first wave are Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker–from The Empire Strikes Back. Given the role Luke/Anakin’s lightsaber is said to have in the plot uniting the characters, the revelation is not totally unexpected. What is strange is that Disney would include them in the first wave, while characters like Maz Kanata or Commander Snoke are not included at all. This might correspond to the elaborate flashback sequence said to retcon elements of the original trilogy and bridge the gap into the new.
Another big surprise: the First Order/Empire’s new weapon is called the “Starkiller.” Enthusiasts will not that Luke’s name in earliest drafts of Star Wars was Starkiller, not Skywalker, and that the name later popped up in The Force Unleashed video game.
