Fans of 80s comedy and cult film rejoice! The demonic human-exorcist is returning.
Actress and convicted shoplifter Winona Ryder confirmed in an interview with Seth Meyers that both she and Michael Keaton will be returning for Beetlejuice 2. Ryder made the admission that director Tim Burton has been working on a sequel, something parent studio Warner Bros. has wanted for years. While doing press for his most recent outing, Big Eyes, Burton said he was working on the project for production in the near future with Ryder and original star Michael Keaton both set to return.
The original film proved a box office hit for Burton in 1988, spawning an animated series and landing him the directoral reins on Batman. Ryder and Keaton both went on to become major stars, though both have had career troubles of late. Keaton had a dry spell of work until last year’s Birdman scored him an Oscar nomination. Ryder’s career took a hit after her conviction for shoplifting in the early 2000s.
No word on if the other cast members of the original film–Jeffery Jones, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara or Geena Davis will reprise their roles.
